Continue to Petra on the Day You Land: 2.5–3.5 Hours from Queen Alia

You can continue to Petra on the day you land: the car goes from Queen Alia to your hotel in Wadi Musa, about 210 to 235 km and 2.5 to 3.5 hours by the Desert Highway. It works well for a daytime landing. For a night landing, sleeping in Amman first is usually easier. A car into Amman ends in Amman, so name Wadi Musa as the destination if Petra is your first stop.

The table is a worked example. It adds about an hour after landing for passport control and bags, then the 2.5 to 3.5 hours of the drive. A delay or a stop moves every figure.

Which landing times suit it

A morning or early-afternoon landing leaves daylight for the road and an evening to settle in at the hotel. A landing in the evening puts you in Wadi Musa after midnight, which many travellers prefer to avoid. If your flight lands late, ask the hotel whether reception stays open, or take the first night in Amman and go south the next morning.
