Amman Airport to Wadi Rum: 3.5–5 Hours by Car

Amman airport to Wadi Rum means a car from Queen Alia International Airport to the desert in the south of Jordan: about 300 to 320 km and 3.5 to 5 hours by road. The car stops at the camp or the visitor area you name. Plan for the long end of that range.

The road

The road runs south on the Desert Highway for most of the trip, then turns toward the protected area. Driving guides and transfer listings give a spread of times, so use the longer one when you plan the day. Flying into Aqaba is much closer to Wadi Rum, about an hour by road, but a flight into Queen Alia leaves the car as the direct way.

Wadi Rum to Queen Alia airport: the return

The return uses the same road, so allow the same 3.5 to 5 hours. Work back from your flight. Most airlines ask international passengers to be at the airport about three hours before departure; check your airline. For a 14:00 flight that means being at the airport near 11:00, so the car should leave the camp near 06:00 at the latest, and earlier if you want a margin. Tell the camp the time the evening before, so breakfast and the last vehicle are ready.
